After years of working in the restaurant and beer industries, Joe Uhl decided to open a few small breweries in the Atlanta area. The goal was local spots that are part of their surrounding community. Instead of pursuing broad distribution, the people and restaurants around it would be the focus. Our family, friends, and neighbors would be the customer.
The passage of Senate Bill 85 in September 2017 provided the ability to support a successful brewery business, and we got started. After several setbacks in finding the right locations, we're moving forward with the first one:
Horned Owl Brewing, 2765 S. Main Street, Kennesaw, GA 30144
Why owls? It's the meaning or translation of our German last name Uhl. And, the different names with "owl" in it provide some great names and ideas for breweries and beers!
A group of owls is called a parliament, so this made sense to call our parent company Parliament Breweries. Each location will have "owl" in its name and unique beers using location-specific brewers, but always sharing the best beer recipes. Utilizing the parent company, Parliament Breweries, will give us options with job opportunities and staffing, purchasing, marketing, and beer collaborations.
